Big Room Sounds - new mix for DL!

many of you have heard my last mix, It's a Nu-Funk Thang, which is 47 minutes of funky cuts to groove to. some of you have been lucky enough to already get one of my promo cd's that I've been handing out at gigs for the last month and a half or so. well the second half of that cd I've decided to finally release to the web!

this portion here is 33 minutes of some of my favourite big room breaks tunes I've been caning in the clubs, including one of my own tunes and re-rubs as well. expect big bass, electro sounds, and crisp breakbeats.

This is a throwdown! Maestro Fresh Wes in Stratford say what?!

Damn I need to remember to update this thing more often.

You faithful readers probably missed me last Wednesday as I threw down in Toronto's sweet Andy Poolhall. It was dope, and I suspect I will be back in the coming months so stay tuned.

Tonight (Friday April 30th) however, is an opportunity to flex my musical versatility while never compromising my integrity of only playing good music. I'm opening for Maestro Fresh Wes, who you may best remember for his classic anthems "Let Your Backbone Slide" and "Drop the Needle".
The jam is taking place in Stratford Ontario at Othello's, check here for the details!

last thing to mention, is that I'll be releasing the second half of my new promo cd that I've been giving out, which is 33 minutes of peak hour electro breaks! expect that live within the next week, I've just been holding off releasing it as I've been playing mostly funk based events.

looking ahead: Ain't That A Groove!

do you like funky music? do you like free events? keep reading!

DJ Splattermonkey has been running a solid night at Lot 16 (1136 Queen St West, Toronto) for a while now called Ain't That A Groove!, and I'm honored to be Novembers guest dj!

on Saturday November 7th I'll be dropping a mix of funk, raregroove, breaks, and really anything else that I feel like throwing in the record bag.
this will be a 100% vinyl set I'll be playing and it will be all over the tempo genre so I'm looking forward to it very much! I've been coming across some great records both new and old and I'm stoked to throw them down for some people to hear them as well.

not to mention that Splattermonkey has some awesome tunes to hear as well, so it's win win.

and did I mention its FREE!?!?

yeah, I think I did. but anyways, yeah, its FREE!

check more details here!

in other news, Krafty Skillz and A-Skillz are playing in Toronto on Halloween as part of Make It Funky's annual Halloween Funk Monsters Ball! this should be crazy good and totally worth the ticket price so don't miss out on that one either!!!

Fun in the Sun! Saturday September 5th!

a little late on the notice, but I'm excited about a couple big tings.
first off, I've successfully made the move with my beautiful girlfriend of 7 years from London to Toronto!
that said - Toronto promoters: hit me up!!! LOL

secondly, I'm looking forward to my first ever gig on sand.
I've played clubs, pubs, art galleries, boat cruises, etc... but this weekend I'll be playing right on the beach just outside of Grand Bend on Saturday September 5th! check out the details on facebook, but rest assured it will be an afternoon of fun!

thats all for this round, hopefully I'll be able to get around to updating this blog more often as time goes.
thanks for stopping by in the mean time!

Officially Out of Hibernation

admittedly I took a couple months off from going out, playing out, and just became a hermit for a bit. but the weather is waming up, which means its time for some great events to start comin' through!

first up, is Friday May 29th inside the stylish club Lavish in downtown London.
DJ Chiclet (http://www.djchiclet.com) comes to London to drop her skillful blend of funky electro with a touch of turntablism. this event is a charity event for breast cancer and is only $5, so come out and support a good cause while hearing some great beats!

then, Friday June 6th, you'll find myself in Toronto!!!
I'll be playing the Sutra Tiki lounge on College Street in Toronto, as part of Eclectic Groove's "FREE MIXER" nights!
this promises to be an awesome event! more details here for the facebook peeps.

the new mix! Skank Honto - TGIFunky!

.
last summer I was running a series of monthly events in London called TGIFunky!
months after the events ended I still had a couple piles of records which
never found their way back to their original places in the crates.
rather than just sort them, I decided to throw together a mix of the tunes that
would have been played, and a couple newer ones picked up since then as well.

I'd like to think this set does capture the essence of the events in the sense that it has
some groove that works through some peaks and valleys in energy but comes off really
organic and fun in the end, while being delivered 100% through vinyl.

that said, give it a listen and feel free to let me know what you think!
(you don't need to register to leave comments on the blog!)

Audio Graffiti @ Pandemic this weekend!

hello blog visitors! sorry about the lack of updates, but here's the skinny on an exciting couple of events in December to cure the winter blues!

this weekend, Saturday December 13th, Soldiers of Sound return for what looks to be now a monthly venture entitled "Audio Graffiti" at Pandemic Nightclub.

this weekend Promo Records' DJ Scratche comes to the Londontown to headline the affair, while warming up the night will be myself, Skank Honto, and Ian Cognito bringing a mix of breaks to set the pace. Aurakal will be closin' tings down with the d'n'b rinseout.

also worth mentioning is New Years Eve! after taking a completely low key approach last year, we're going to flip the script and party like its 2009. NEC brings a Hometown Heroes New Years event featuring London's best.
myself and Ian Cognito will be ringing in the new year in Room 2 with a mix of the hottest and freshest beats to move your feets. Seriously, we are bringing nothing but the biggest and best tunes out for this one, so don't miss out!

only $15 advanced on new years is a crazy good deal, so come join the party! hope to see you all out and about!

welcome to my new blog.

sadly, my old blog is gone.
with that I've lost years of content.
listings of past events, flyers, mixes, charts, news, literally the last 4 years of my dj'ing history is pretty much gone, along with a whole lot of information I wish I still had.

that said I may be a bit slacking before I get the wheels back in motion here.
but in the mean time, check out TGIFunky.com for my latest project details!

and here is a mix that isn't on the SkankHonto.com website!
thrown down on a couple tech 12's and a CDJ1000 a few months back.
no cd covers or fancy imagery, just some straight up energetic beats with a theme of robots, electro, basslines, a bit of brouse, and even a couple guitars.
